What is Professional Tax on Salary?
Professional Tax is a direct tax that deducts from the individual’s income for practising their profession (via employment or trade) in a state.
The professional tax on salary depends on your monthly income, and the predetermined tax slabs vary from state to state. In addition, state governments can levy professional taxes to the limit of ₹2,500 on a person in a financial year.

How to Add Professional Tax in SalaryBox?
You can add the professional tax to your salary templates in the SalaryBox app, automatically calculating employees' salaries per set deductions.
The steps to add Professional Tax in Salary Template are given below:
Android
Follow the steps below to create your salary template on your android phone.
1. Open the app and select Settings.

2. Select Salary Settings.

3. Select Manage Salary (CTC Template).

4. Click on + Create Template.

5. Once done, enter the Template Name and basic salary percentage.
6. You cannot add the remaining salary percentage as allowances if the basic salary is 100%.
7. Go to Deductions and click on PT.
8. Select your State from the drop-down.

9. Once done, click on Create Template to save it.

Note: Once you select your preferred state from the drop-down, it will automatically calculate PT based on standard slabs. You can also refer to the table above to determine your state's PT rates.
Desktop
If you want to add Professional Tax to your salary template, you can follow the steps given below and create a salary template in the desktop app.
1. Open the SalaryBox app and select Settings.
2. Scroll down to Salary Settings and select Create Salary Template.

3. Tap on +Create Salary Template.

4. Enter the Template Name and set the Basic salary percentage if you provide allowances.
5. Click on +Add Deduction at the bottom of the page and select PT State from the drop-down.

6. Tap on the column in front of PT State to select your state from the drop-down.

7. Once done, click on Save to save the template.

Note that the selected state from the drop-down menu will automatically fetch the standard PT slab rates. You can check the table given above to determine your state rates.
