What is Professional Tax?

Professional Tax is a direct tax that deducts from the individual’s income on the account of practicing their profession (via employment or trade) in a state.


The tax calculation depends on your monthly income and the predetermined tax slabs varying from state to state. In addition, state governments can levy professional taxes to the limit of ₹ 2,500 on a person in a financial year.

How to Add Professional Tax in Salarybox?


You can add the professional tax to your salary templates in the Salarybox app, which will automatically calculate employees’ salaries as per set deductions. 


The steps to add Professional Tax in Salary Template are given below:


Android

Follow the steps given below to create your salary template on your android phone.


  1. Open the app and select Settings.

  2. Select Salary Settings.

  3. Select Manage Salary (CTC Template).

  4. Click on + Create Template.

  5. Once done, enter the Template Name and basic salary percentage.

  6. You can add the remaining salary percent as allowances if the basic salary is not 100%.

  7. Go to Deductions and click on PT.

  8. Select your State from the drop-down.

  9. Once done, click on Create Template to save it.


You can use different templates for different employees. Follow the steps given below to set the salary template for specific employees on your android device.


  1. Go to the SalaryBox home screen.

  2. Click on More for the employee you wish to change the salary template for.

  3. Click on Edit Employee and scroll down to Salary Payment Info.

  4. Select Edit ESI, EPF and Allowances.

  5. Click on SalaryBox provided breakdown or the selected template to change.

  6. Choose your preferred template from the drop-down menu and click on Update CTC.



Desktop

If you want to add Professional Tax to your salary template, you can follow the steps given below and create a salary template in the desktop app.


  1. Open the app and select Settings.

  2. Scroll down to Salary Settings and select Create Salary Template.

  3. Tap on +Create Salary Template.

  4. Enter the Template Name and set the Basic salary percentage if you provide allowances.

  5. Click on +Add Deduction at the bottom of the page and select PT State from the drop-down.

  6. Tap on the column in front of PT State to select your state from the drop-down.

  7. Once done, click on Save to save the template.


Once created, you can set your salary template for the specific employees. Here are the steps that you can follow.


  1. Go to the SalaryBox home screen by clicking on Employees from the left sidebar.

  2. Click on Edit at the employee name you want to change the salary template for.

  3. Select Edit Employee from the drop-down and scroll down to the Salary section.

  4. Click on Edit Salary Amount and ESI/EPF Allowances.

  5. Tap in front of the Salary Structure to change the salary template.

  6. Choose your preferred salary template from the drop-down menu and click on Apply Template.

  7. Once done, tap on Update Salary Breakdown for the final save.
